Validere Workshop
Navigating the voluntary initiatives landscape for methane
Validere Workshop
Validere's Erin Tullos, Senior Advisor will be hosting a workshop on emissions management where she will cover the emerging voluntary methane initiatives market, the application of measurement technologies, and how to maximize value through participation.
Methane emissions from the oil and gas value chain have been called the achilles heel of the industry. Methane emissions threaten the reputation of natural gas as part of the energy transition, though energy forecasts consistently agree that natural gas has decades of running room. Resultantly, many companies have leaned in to opportunities to demonstrate progress in reducing methane emissions through various differentiated gas initiatives and measurement, verification and reporting frameworks.
Meanwhile, the burgeoning ecosystem of performance initiatives and measurement technologies are complex. The evolution of options appears ever expanding with less clarity over time as to where to strategically focus. This can lead to analysis paralysis or, more expensively, a temptation to place small bets around and try everything.
The discussion will include:
- Measurement Reporting and Verification (MRV) (e.g., OGMP 2.0)
- Certifications (e.g., Project Canary, Equitable Origins)
- Other technical programs developing protocols in support of those efforts
