How SECURE automated Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting across 50+ vendor sources

SECURE tracks emissions across a broad portfolio of midstream, waste management, and chemical storage assets. Scope 1 and 2 reporting depended on manual collection and spreadsheet workflows fed by more than 50 operational and emissions data vendors. Validere centralized the asset inventory, automated vendor data ingestion, and gave teams facility-level visibility for reporting and audit work.

01

The challenge

SECURE faced growing complexity tracking emissions across a large asset portfolio. Operational data arrived from more than 50 vendors, and Scope 1 and 2 reporting relied on manual entry, aggregation, and verification almost entirely in spreadsheets.

That created heavy quarterly effort, raised the risk of entry and formula errors, and made it harder to link vendor invoices and usage data to specific facilities. Spreadsheet workflows also limited consistency checks and audit traceability.

02

The approach

Validere implemented the Validere Platform to unify data ingestion, emissions quantification, and reporting for SECURE.

The team organized a centralized asset inventory across midstream, waste management, and chemical storage assets as the source of truth for active assets and emissions allocation. Custom pipelines ingested data from 50+ vendor sources, from truck tickets to electricity bills. Vendor data was linked to specific facilities for source-level attribution and to help flag potential invoicing discrepancies. Dashboards and structured workflows supported variance tracking, reduction planning, and auditability.

03

The results

SECURE moved from manual, spreadsheet-heavy quarterly work to a more automated emissions reporting process.Formula-related spreadsheet errors were removed from the core workflow. Emission-source calculations were improved where gaps were found. A verification step comparing internal numbers to platform outputs increased confidence in the reported figures. Facility-level reporting made emissions attribution clearer across facilities and business units, and dashboards helped teams monitor trends and variances over time.

Working with Validere has helped us advance our emissions reporting capabilities. Through the adoption of their emissions management software, we've achieved more accurate and automated emissions tracking, minimizing errors associated with manual data entry. The platform’s centralized dashboard provides a comprehensive view of emissions across all business units, empowering us to plan, forecast, and comply with evolving regulatory requirements with greater confidence. This collaboration has strengthened our reporting processes and positioned us for continued progress on our sustainability journey.
